Late Chairman, Mr Don Lucian Nimal Saparamadu was born on 8th January 1955. He excelled in his education both Primary and Secondary at St. Anthony’s College, Wattala and at De Mazenod College, Kandana. On completion of his Tertiary Education he assumed duties as a Telegraphist at Sri Lanka Telecom, where he served dedicatedly as the Manager – Marketing (Administration and Technical Support) until he renounced his occupation. His passion for educating young did not quit his aspiration of achieving heights in education. He obtained a Masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) in the year 2006 from the University of Honolulu in USA. Like many other entrepreneurs, he had served in the state sector including Sri Lanka Telecom for over 25 years.

While serving the state, his attention was drawn to three important aspects in education: globalisation and its effects on Sri Lankan society, the recent technical and scientific developments in the world and the weaknesses of our educational system. Most of the children belonging to middle-class families have been facing the problems and challenges created by the existing educational system.

His ideology and vision were developed from the above three concerns. His mission was to provide the best education to the children to overcome the problems and challenges in society. With this concept in mind he started Denuma Education Institute in 1974 at Wattala. This institute has immensely helped the children of the area with its rapid development.

His next step was to introduce an International School to provide systematic education and to enhance the English Language competency amongst the children. Having started with just 14 students and 2 teachers on 7th September 1998 he built and developed the OKI International School into what it is today. He accomplished this fact within a short period of time. The seed he sowed 27 years ago has grown into a huge tree.

The helmsman and the impetus behind the progress, development and achievements of OKI International School is its founder Chairman, Mr.Nimal Saparamadu. He had a great determination to elevate the school on to greater heights and due to his tremendous effort, commitment and dedication he accomplished his task and adapted a holistic and integrated learning approach in education. The children were encouraged to recognise, appreciate and preserve the traditional values and the rich culture of our motherland.

The late Chairman was a simple human being on a mission. His mission was to ensure that all his protégés became responsible global citizens of tomorrow. He was a visionary educationist who guided the destinies of thousands of children. He earned respect, goodwill and gratefulness from young citizens. He has left an indelible mark on those who came into contact with him. His fragrance shall linger on forever. Today the society reaps the benefit of goodness from the seeds of humanity that he sowed.
