Environment studies (Grade 1 to 3)

The purpose of this subject is to enhance the social values of primary school students. The social environment approaches the awareness of the national heritage, sensitivity and skills linked to members of a plural society, concern for distributive justice, social relationships, personal conduct, general and legal conventions, rights, responsibilities, duties and obligations.

Junior Secondary

Grade 6 & 7

To ensure the promotion of OKI International School students to choose the pathways for their O/L Examination, the curriculum is designed for a diverse approach of learning combined with the Cambridge and the National stream. Junior Secondary education consists of the following as compulsory subjects: English, Mathematics, Sinhala/Tamil, General Science, Information Communication Technology, Religion, History, Geography, Civics and Physical Education. Art, Music and Dancing are considered as optional subjects.

Social Studies (History / Geography/ Civics Education)

Social Studies is taught to the students in order to enhance the knowledge of our history, especially about the Kings who ruled our country and the way our ancestors lived in the past. This subject makes the students aware to mark the location in the Map of Sri Lanka and the World Map. By learning this subject, it improves the knowledge of being a salutary person and a good citizen to society with strong Moral Principles. This approach will ensure to make it convenient when they select the National Curriculum.

Physical Education

The curriculum is based on the Local National Health and Physical Education system for the subject of Health and Physical Education. The subject teaches students how to live a healthy life from an early age and share solidarity by playing outdoors as well as enduring victories and defeats. It also has the potential to help children to get rid of the monotonous education pattern and their stress and socialise as a healthy generation by practicing sports activities from an early age. This subject will also enable the country to produce talented sportsmen and sportswomen in the future and take them to an International Standard.

Effective Speech

Our school recognises the importance of effective communication and Effective Speaking is therefore a part of our curriculum. Optional subjects

It is expected to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes, as well as the ability to think, social abilities, good habits of life and personal abilities in order to produce a congenial society and also to develop in society the ability to appreciate work of art so as to view them critically. Special attention has been paid to build up the strength necessary to create a conducive background for the maintenance of the national heritage without it going into extinction. Firm linkages with modern concepts of education have been forged with the activity-based, student-centered learning/teaching process. As such, these subjects will provide the ability for students to achieve expected levels of achievement in respect of skills related to Dancing / Music / Art based on modern approaches to the related competencies.

Senior Secondary

Grade 8 to 11

The curricula from grade 8 upwards have been formed around progression and expansion of the activity based, environmental related and integrated learning / teaching disciplines. Grade 8 becomes a bridging year among the integrated curriculum and the subject based curriculum of the secondary school.

Students are given the opportunity to select between the Cambridge and the National syllabi which encompasses providing a rich learning experience while being responsive to the needs, aspirations and to facilitate connection and learning. The competency based education at this level incorporates simple to complex components to enhance individual assimilation.

A remarkable emphasis is paid on the mastery of the Information Communication Technology as the information revolution has rendered this competency essential. Students are inspired to explore and discover many creative ideas establishing the application of acquired knowledge.
